Evelyn Smith

Evelyn Smith, 79 of Clay City, passed away July 25, 2010 at 1:56pm at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born December 1, 1930 in Old Hickory, TN, the daughter of Allen and Era Hunt Keen. Her family moved to Clay County when she was a young girl. She attended Brazil High School.

On January 31, 1948 Evelyn married the love of her life, Jacob S. Smith. She was a homemaker and the center of their family. She enjoyed caring for her husband and family, cooking and oil paintings.

She was a member of the Spencer Baptist Church and also had attended Fatch Chapel Church.

Survivors include her loving and devoted husband of 63 years, Jake Smith of Clay City; children Judy (Jim) Canning of Spencer, Dennis (Sue) Smith of Clay City, and Karen (Butch) Moss of Clay City; 6 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brothers Virgil (Ruth) Keen of Brazil and Charles (Jenny) Keen of Indianapolis, and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother James Keen; one sister Elizabeth Keen and special sister in law, Eva Keen.

Funeral Information

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00pm at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home with Pastor Marvin Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 12-2pm.

Donations Information

Memorial contributions may be made to Vista Care Hospice; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
