Olive Hofmann, 88, died on September 6, 2010 at 11:32 AM at Union Hospital.
She was born October 1, 1921 in Nebraska City, Nebraska the oldest daughter of Orville and Elizabeth Mae Hager.

She grew up in Nebraska and finished school there. She married Jesse Philip (Phil) Hofmann I in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. They moved from Nebraska to Clay County, Indiana in 1942. She has lived south of Prairie City since 1965.

Olive was a member of the Prairie City United Methodist Church, the ladies sewing circle, and was a leader of the Sunday School Class seniors for many years. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker.

She also helped with all of the farming until she was no longer able. During her last years, she renewed her interest in sewing and made many doilies which she gave to family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Phil in 1976; her parents; one infant granddaughter, Kathryn Sue Hofmann; her only sister, Betty Curtis and her husband Robert Curtis; a step-daughter-in-law, Arlene Hofmann; and step-daughter, Phyllis Green.

Survivors include her son, Roger and wife Beulah Hofmann of Brazil; one grandson, Ronald and wife Jamie Hofmann of Brazil; one granddaughter, Rachel and husband Randall Shockley of Carmel; a great-granddaughter, Hailey Hofmann of Brazil, and great-grandson, Nicholas Shockley of Carmel; nephew, Lynn Curtis of Pawnee City, Nebraska; niece, Jean and husband Keith Deters of Seneca, Kansas; step-son, Jesse Philip Hofmann II of Norman, OK; step-grandson, Jesse Philip Hofmann III and wife Marcie of Wichita, Kansas; step-granddaughter, Deborah and husband Sonny Tims of Norman, OK; two step-great-grandsons, Joel and Andrew Tims and two step-great-granddaughters, Nicole and Jessica Hofmann; many friends and extended family members.

Funeral Information

Funeral services will be Thursday, September 9, 2010 at 3:00 PM at French Funeral Home. Visitation will be two hours prior to services. At the request of the deceased, cremation was chosen.

Donations Information

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Prairie City United Methodist Church, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
