Lucille J. Torr

Lucille J. Torr, 103, of Brazil, Indiana passed away on March 5, 2010.

She was born June 2, 1906 South of Center Point, to George and Nettie Baughman Meyer.

She attended the Longenecker Grade School and graduated from Sugar Ridge Township High School in 1924 and Brazil Business School in 1925.

She worked for several years at Hulman and Company in Terre Haute, until 1936 when she returned to Brazil and was secretary and office manager for Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA). She was Clerk of the Ration Board and supervised the 1950 Census in Clay County. She worked in the Clay County Court House and served as Deputy Recorder. She retired as bookkeeper and secretary at Pell Homes in 1976 after twenty years. In her earlier years she worked with the Girl Scouts.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her first husband Harry W. Beasley in 1935 and husband Harold E. Torr in 1981, brothers Charles, Alfred, Roy (WWI), and Herbert Meyer, sisters Ruth Youngblood Wallace and Marjorie O. Houser, nephew Alton M. Meyer, and great-nephew William Meyer.

She had attended Fatch Chapel Methodist Church, and was currently a member of Brazil First United Methodist Church, where she attended for many years. She was also a fifty-year member of OES # 80 of Brazil.

Survivors include one son Harold Beasley and wife Carolyn, of Brazil, grandsons Mark (Penny), Michael (Beth), and Martin (Kristen), all of Brazil; granddaughter Marcia Kilpatrick (Chris) of Zionsville; great-grandchildren Chad (Stephanie), Eric, Ryan, Austin, and Emma Beasley, all of Brazil, C.J., and Caitlyn Kilpatrick of Zionsville; two great-great granddaughters Makayla and Clara Beasley of Brazil; niece Lois Holley and nephew David Hauser.

Funeral Information

Services for Lucille will be at French Funeral Home, Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at 1:00pm with Pastor Tony Alstott officiating. Burial will follow at Centerpoint Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday from 11am until time of services.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church 201 N. Meridian St. Brazil, In 47834.
